Chris Balsley: The Power of Forgiveness

What happens when life gives you two choices — prison or military?

In this raw and moving episode, psychologist and executive coach Chris Balsley joins us and opens up about the turning points that shaped his 40-year journey of faith, leadership, and healing. From being a 19-year-old facing a judge’s ultimatum, to training over 7,000 soldiers in mindfulness and resilience, Chris’s story traces how pain can transform into purpose.

He speaks candidly about surviving sexual assault, the anger and recklessness that followed, and how martial arts, spirituality, and forgiveness helped him reclaim his power. In sharing his story, Chris shows that forgiveness is not forgetting — it’s seeing the humanity in those who’ve hurt us, and freeing ourselves from the cycle of pain.

In this deeply human conversation and our first episode of Season 3, we speak with Dr. Kristy Fu — Consultant Pediatric Intensivist at the National University Hospital in Singapore, educator, mentor, and trained ontological coach.

Kristy takes us inside the realities of working in the pediatric ICU, where joy and heartbreak often sit side-by-side. She shares how her early experiences as a patient shaped her calling to medicine, the values that keep her grounded in public service, and what it takes to face life-and-death moments with both skill and compassion.

From managing grief and supporting parents through unimaginable loss, to the parallels she sees between doctoring and coaching, Kristy offers rare insight into how hope, teamwork, and self-care make this work possible.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to serve on the frontlines of critical care — and still believe in humanity — this episode is a must-listen.
